There is a whole ecosystem of professionals, organizations, and workplaces that do the work of advancing progressive public policy—and we are lucky to partner with them to run our Roosevelt in Washington program.
Roosevelt in Washington (RIW) is a six-month career exploration and professional development program for undergrads that takes place during the summer between their freshman and sophomore years or sophomore and junior years. This opportunity requires a 5-hour-per-week virtual commitment from March to June and a 40-hour-per-week in-person commitment for June and July, during which students must be physically present in Washington, DC, for an eight-week internship.
RIW Fellows receive targeted skill-building training, mentorship from Network alumni, and placement into an eight-week summer internship within the Roosevelt Institute or a partner organization. RIW Fellows will also have the opportunity to grow as leaders in a community of other passionate policy wonks, with weekly seminar sessions on critical skills like emotional intelligence, coalition building, and project management.
